This is a fine hand made and hand painted model of the Portes Des Bombes in Floriana - Bieb Il-Bombi - Furjana

A familiar sight when approaching Floriana, the gate was built in 1721 during the reign of Spanish Grand Master Ramos Perellos to the designs of the French architect Charles Mondion.  The cost was 6000 scudi.  The original gate had one archway; this was duplicated in 1868 during the time of Sir Patrick Grant, Governor of Malta.  The architect was Col. E. W. Dunford, Royal Engineers.

A Latin inscription over one of the arches explains that this was done 'for the greater convenience of the public'.  Some 65 year later access was further improved by cutting back the bastions on either side of the gate. 

worth noticing is the fact that the columns on the facade are in the shape of cannons. Model is 15 x 8 cm
